Major places to visit in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh is situated in the southeastern coast of India and it is said to be the 4th largest state in the country. This state is an amalgamation of culture and history as one can find the mention of this state at 800 BC in the epic of Mahabharata.

If one is thinking of spending a holiday in this state, then here are some places which one needs to visit.


This is the largest city in the state and is one of the major seaports in India. This place is filled with a lot of beaches, hilltops and some wildlife sanctuaries and so it can attract a lot of tourists here. One can also pay a visit to the Araku Valley when they are here. It is a hill station and one can go to a lot of places by trekking from there. Apart from that, one can spend some fun time on the beaches called Rishikonda and Yarada. The major places to visit here are Katiki waterfalls, Borra caves, Kailasgiri Hill Park, Indira Gandhi zoological parks and Vuda Park.


It is one of the most famous pilgrimage sites of India and this city is located in the southern part of the state at the foothills of the Eastern Ghats. A Tamil Vaishnava saint named Ramanujacharya is said to have found this city. It is famous for the temple which is dedicated to ‘Balaji’ a form of Lord Vishnu. Apart from the Tirupati temple, one can also get to visit the Venkateswara Temple, Deer Park, Sri Vari Museum and TTD Gardens here. One can also pay a visit to the Kanipakam and Srikalahasti.


This is one of the largest cities of Andhra Pradesh and it is a global city here. The River Krishna runs through the city here and it is also located in the hills of Eastern Ghats. To the west of the city lies the jungles and there is Kondapalli Reserve Forest and one can get to see jackals, leopards, wolves, wild dogs and bears here. It also has a lot of temples and monuments along with some ancient caves. Major places to visit in this city are Mogalarajapuram Caves, Undavalli caves, Bhavani Islands, Victoria museum, Prakasam barrage, and Kolleru Lake. One can also plan a trek to the Gandhi hills.


The word Nellore mainly means Paddy place and so it is one of the most important agricultural cities of the state. This is also said to be the prime source of rice in not only the state but in the country as well. This town is actually split by the Pennar River and so it placed at both the banks of the river. To the east of the city lies the Bay of Bengal and so this place has a unique geographical location. Major places to visit here are Venkatgiri Fort, Udaygiri Fort, Nellapattu Bird sanctuary, Mypad beach, and Pulicat Lake.
