Changing Of Gender Identity And Male-Like Writing By Female Authors

As of today, there is a game of sorts on the net and in literature with changing of gender identity: there are feminine and masculine self-definition.

  1. Depending on the piece of art`s target, modern female authors clearly represent their female principle in the text or vice versa;

  2. Refuse from female initiative of narration on the formal level, simulate their texts to be written in a masculine style and imitate the way of males speaking.

At that gender identity and individual writing style of a writer have a meaningful effect onto the ways of text production, even in the situation of the opposite sex-like text stylization. Applying for the method of authorship examination and law science allow to carry out analysis of a text as if written by an opposite sex person and define a true gender role of a text`s author.

Linguistic identity of an author and his gender identity are defined on the basis of his individual peculiarities of a writing style on which the following factors have an impact:

1. Idiolect is a complex of steady individual linguistic and intellectual skills of a certain person, which are unique and one of a kind in each linguistic case and allow to identify an author of this or that text.

2. Genderlect is a social role and gender stereotypes of a certain person in accordance with which an individual finds some certain specific peculiarities common for male/female style of speech. It should be noted that imitated characteristics are never perceived by a reader as extraneous as long as a writing style is always a system of means, which are complied with a certain artistic assignment and typified by artistic shapes.

Thus, there is a revolution of sorts within a female`s text, looming of style. A female author catches on a new objectness, “trying on” a gender role of a man using feministic critic of a language by definition, rational language, which is more widely used among men. With its help, an author gets and understands other sides unknown before, which surround her. Learning a new style of writing simulated as if being written by a male happens to take place in a female`s text. Due to this stylistic device, a female author expresses herself in a text, reflecting all the edges of herself, speaks out of her androgyny and her interest in life of the opposite sex. All these innovations from the perspective of modern gender researches, in particular, gender stylistics is not only a fight for specific female text but also a chance to be recognized in the literary world of men and this is a way to express oneself of sorts, self-presentation for a female author, who is up for a sex changing game in order to get some new artistic experience (this new experience lies within an attempt to describe truly enough life of a man, his feelings and worries). If a woman was writing about her hero from herself, a reader would not see a detailed accuracy of described feelings. Applying for gender stylization, a female author becomes a subject of speech for some time (applies a gender role of a man), tries to write and feel like a man. Texts, written by female authors and simulated as if being written by males are first of all unique example of rational man`s way of thinking and a woman`s view of life reflection at the same time, which are characterized by a high emotionality, which finds its clear display in a text in the way of identified syntactical attributes (connection between elements of speaking have not a grammar but emotional nature), defining an individual writing style. The female principle in such texts is not what dominates but necessarily is there as a well-formed influence of an author gender role onto linguistic peculiarities of personal style.
