Human power is kinetic energy or work that is formed from the human body. It can be transferred in several ways. Power comes mainly from muscles and it can be preserved over a certain period of time. Human power is generally used to propel bicycles, but can also be used to produce electrical energy and hand-crank gears. Human powered transport is the transport of individuals, several goods or both persons and goods using human strength. Human powered transport exists like animal powered transport in the form of swimming, walking, and running. Modern technology has allowed several wonderful technical machines to develop human-power.
Human powered transport is the only one choice of transportation in inaccessible or underdeveloped regions. A skilled cyclist can generate about six hundred watts of mechanical energy within half an hour, but a man of better average fitness can produce only between hundred and two hundred watts from an hour of energetic exercise. This mechanical energy can be converted to electrical power or transformational motion. While some exercise machines have been coupled with generators, the amount of energy collected is converted to the electrical energy.
There are several types of transport which use human power. They include walking, bicycle, skateboard, wheelchair, rowing, wheelbarrow, rickshaw, and skis. Some of the transport may utilize more than a single person. The most effective human powered means of transportation is the bicycle. Compared to another bicycle, the recumbent bicycle is faster due to its improved aerodynamics. French scientists have made human-powered aircraft and balloons. Solar balloons and aircraft are new types of vehicles. Man powered watercraft includes ancient and well-known traditional vehicle such as rowing boats, galleys, and canoes. The term man-powered boat is utilized for more advanced craft using water wheels and propellers for propulsion.
